Terms & Conditions
1. Introduction
These Terms & Conditions outline how I provide services through Day One Midwife. They are designed to ensure transparency, safety and clarity for everyone receiving care.
2. Scope of Service
I offer in-home tongue-tie assessment and, where indicated and safe, same-day division (frenulotomy), feeding support, weighing your baby, a follow-up phone call and one week of WhatsApp support. Care is delivered by Gem Sharman, a qualified and practising midwife and certified tongue-tie practitioner.
Services can only be provided where valid informed consent is obtained from a person with legal parental responsibility for the baby.
3. Fees and Payment
The total charge for a full assessment and, if indicated, tongue-tie division is £225.
A £100 booking fee is paid at the time of booking to secure your visit.
If tongue-tie division is indicated and safe, an additional £125 is payable before the procedure is carried out.
If division is not required or not clinically appropriate, only the £100 assessment fee applies.
Payment is requested by bank transfer. An alternative payment method, including card payment, can be arranged upon request.
4. Visits Beyond 25 Miles
Travel is included within a 25-mile radius of ST15, Stone, Staffordshire. For visits beyond this, a mileage charge of £1 per additional mile (one way) is added to the total fee.
5. Cancellations and Rescheduling
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give as much notice as possible. Booking fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to a new date at my discretion.
I reserve the right to cancel or postpone a visit if your baby is unwell or if it is not clinically appropriate to proceed.
In the unlikely event that I am unable to attend your visit due to illness, emergency, or unforeseen circumstances such as travel disruption, I will contact you as soon as possible to rearrange your appointment at the earliest suitable time. Any payment made will be transferred to the new appointment.
6. Clinical Limitations
Tongue-tie division will not be performed if:
• It is not clinically indicated
• Your baby is unwell at the time of the visit (for example oral thrush, fever or suspected infection)
• Further medical input (for example ENT referral) is recommended
• Feeding concerns appear unrelated to tongue function
Where division is not performed, I will still provide feeding support and guidance as part of the visit.
All decisions regarding assessment and treatment are made on clinical grounds at the time of the visit.
I reserve the right to postpone or terminate a visit if concerns arise regarding safety, consent or safeguarding.
7. Reassessment and Re-Division
If re-attachment is suspected, a follow-up visit may be offered where clinically appropriate. A reduced fee of £50 applies for this visit.
Where re-division is clinically indicated, this may be offered following discussion and with valid parental consent. No additional charge is made for re-division beyond the £50 follow-up visit fee.
8. Follow-Up Contact
Each visit includes follow-up contact for up to four weeks following the visit.
Follow-up contact may be provided via phone or message, depending on clinical need and practitioner availability. Messages are responded to during usual working hours and are not monitored continuously.
Contact beyond this timeframe may be offered at my discretion, depending on clinical need and capacity.
9. Post-Procedure Item
A small toy may be provided after the procedure to support post-division tongue movement. This is included at no additional charge and is subject to availability.
10. Refunds
As this is a clinical service involving professional time, assessment and travel, refunds are not routinely offered.
Where an assessment has taken place, the assessment fee is non-refundable.
If tongue-tie division does not proceed because it is not clinically indicated or safe, no further charge beyond the assessment fee will apply.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
11. Photographs and Use of Images
On occasion, photographs may be taken as part of care to support assessment, treatment, record keeping, education or service information.
Where photographs are taken, they will not include patient identifiable information. Images will not show the full face of the baby and will usually be limited to the mouth and surrounding area.
Photographs may only be used for marketing or promotional purposes, including on social media, the website, leaflets or other materials, where explicit consent has been given. Consent for this use is optional and may be declined or withdrawn at any time without any impact on care provided.
All photographs are stored securely and handled in accordance with data protection requirements.
12. Complaints and Quality Assurance
I aim to provide safe, high-quality care at all times.
If you have any concern or complaint, please raise this with me directly in the first instance so that I can try to resolve the matter promptly.
Raising a concern or complaint will not affect your care.
Where concerns cannot be resolved, or where you wish to escalate a complaint, I use an independent external clinical governance provider to review incidents or complaints. External review and governance support is provided by Clinical Governance UK (linda@clinicalgovernance.uk).
As part of my governance arrangements, my work is subject to external audit. When you book care with me, you acknowledge that your care records may be reviewed by a registered health professional for quality assurance purposes. All information is handled confidentially and in accordance with data protection requirements.
